Austin Baxter is officially an Attorney

We are delighted to announce that on April 27th, Austin Baxter received the news that he had passed the bar exam. He was sworn in on May 25, 2023, marking the official beginning in his career as an attorney – three weeks before he turns 25 years old. 

This feat is a decade-long journey for Austin, as he set his sights on a career as an attorney after being selected to represent California at the National Judicial Competition during his first year of high school. Austin competed in mock trial and moot court on a national level throughout high school, being awarded a top appellate justice award and leading a mock trial team to a 6th place finish. In his senior year, Austin served as California Youth and Government’s 68th Chief Justice.  

Austin began at Werge & Corbin LLC as a summer law clerk after his second year of law school and continued to work with us through his final semester of law school. He took a brief hiatus while studying for the February 2023 Colorado Bar exam and has since been back at the firm helping our clients. 

Just under ten years after Austin first competed in mock trial, Austin has been sworn in as an attorney ready to represent our clients. We are thrilled for Austin and commend him for his hard work in achieving this remarkable accomplishment. As Austin steps into his new role as an attorney, we are confident that he will continue to excel at Werge & Corbin LLC. The entire firm is proud of his achievements and is excited to witness his growth and success as a lawyer.

Law Week Colorado features partners Tom Werge and Greg Corbin in two separate articles yesterday. Tom Werge, recognized for his contribution and statement regarding the overly oppositional change in behaviors in the business litigation world, “I think this is an ongoing issue due to the lack of in person connection within the practice, including during covid, and post-covid,” Tom states. “I am hopeful, with the return of more in-person events and hearings, that we can stem the degradation of civility within the practice,” mentions Tom. And Greg Corbin, recognized and named for a Super Lawyers Rising Star for the third consecutive year, shares his insight for new attorneys. Greg recommends for new attorneys beginning their career to form as many connections as possible with mentors and colleagues while also remaining devoted to your craft. “Embrace learning opportunities, even if they at first feel like losses. Pro Bono Pledge

The Colorado Supreme Court acknowledges law firms and attorneys that commit to and achieve a goal of providing at least 50 hours of pro bono legal services per year, per attorney. The pro bono pledge is intended to increase access to justice and provide legal services without payment of fees to individuals and organizations of limited means. Rule 6.1 of the Colorado Rules of Professional Conduct sets forth an aspirational goal that each lawyer render at least 50 hours of pro bono public legal services per year, with a substantial majority of those hours without fee to (1) persons of limited means or (2) governmental or non-profit organization matters designed primarily to address the needs of persons of limited means.

On April 26, 2023, the Supreme Court held its annual recognition ceremony for all law firms participating in the pledge. And we are pleased to announce Werge & Corbin LLC (Werge Law Group) was recognized as one of the firms that not only took the pledge, but surpassed the goal, completing almost 200 hours of pro bono work amongst attorneys Kelsey Martin, Thomas Werge, and Greg Corbin! We are proud of what this accomplishment represents – our continued dedication to helping underserved individuals and small businesses in Colorado.

As one of our esteemed clients, we were honored to assist Cathi in her acquisition of this historic local business, which has been serving the Denver community since 1977.

The Book Rack is renowned for its extensive collection of used paperback books, spanning a wide range of genres including romance, sci-fi/fantasy, and mystery. As the only used bookstore in Denver that has been in continuous operation since 1977, it holds a special place in the hearts of book lovers and local residents alike.

Our law firm played a crucial role in ensuring that the transaction went smoothly, providing expert legal advice and support to Cathi throughout the entire process. With our assistance, Cathi was able to successfully acquire The Book Rack and preserve its legacy as a cherished local institution.

April 1, 2023 marks the one-year anniversary of the union between Werge Law LLC and Signal Law LLC. Following the merger, Werge Law LLC became Werge & Corbin LLC, and we continued operating under the trade name of Werge Law Group. This year has allowed us to continue to strengthen the ties with our clients, adding important components and creating a unified front. This anniversary marks a proud day for Tom Werge and Greg Corbin, who saw an opportunity to build a stronger law firm through collaboration.

Tom Werge and Greg Corbin Named to 2023 Colorado Super Lawyers and Rising Stars Lists

Werge Law Group is proud to announce that partners Tom Werge has been named a 2023 Colorado Super Lawyer and Greg Corbin has been named a 2023 Colorado Super Lawyers: Rising Star. While this marks Tom's first time being selected as a Super Lawyer, he was named a Rising Star each year from 2015-2020. Greg has been selected for the third consecutive year as a 'Rising Star'. Greg Corbin is an experienced transactional attorney who has also represented clients in complex business litigation matters. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Greg volunteers his time on the Board of Directors for Project Worthmore, a non-profit providing services to the Denver refugee community. Former Law Clerk, Austin Baxter, joins Werge Law Group as an Associate Attorney

Werge Law Group is pleased to announce the hiring of Austin Baxter as their newest Associate Attorney. Austin brings a wealth of legal knowledge and experience along with him. Austin Baxter has a unique insight and understanding of the legal process and will be a great asset to the team at Werge Law Group. We look forward to the fresh perspectives that Austin will bring to the firm as he continues to serve our clients.

Austin first started work with Werge Law Group as a law clerk for the summer and fall of 2022. After graduating from CU Law School in only 2.5 years—a semester early—he will be working to support both our litigation and transactional practices. Austin began his legal journey at an early age when he began in Mock Trial and Moot Court competitions at 14 years old. At that time, Austin argued in the California Supreme Courthouse, where he later judged oral arguments as the elected Youth Chief Justice of the California Supreme Court by a group of over 4,500 high school students across California. Since then, he has been involved in a variety of legal experiences, such as Criminal Defense for the CU Law clinic, municipal law in both private firms and public entities, as well as various pro bono projects. Austin sat for the Bar in February 2023, and is pending admission to the Colorado Bar. Prior to attending law school, he earned a bachelor's degree from Carleton College, majoring in Philosophy with a minor in Cognitive Science.

Outside of law, Austin enjoys hiking with his pup Gigi and playing ultimate frisbee with local club teams. He is also a volunteer ultimate frisbee coach at Boulder High School and was a former volunteer mock trial coach with the University of Colorado – Boulder's undergraduate team. With his passion for the law and community service, Austin will bring immense value to the firm and Colorado’s legal community.

Austin will be taking on a variety of roles as Associate Attorney. He will be working with the firm’s other attorneys and team members to provide clients with the highest quality legal services in the areas of small business, civil litigation, nonprofits, and music law. He will also be providing guidance and advice to clients on all aspects of the legal process, including drafting documents, researching cases, and representing clients in court. Although he is a new graduate, Austin's passion and knowledge of the law will be an invaluable asset to our firm and our clients. We are confident that Austin will be able to use his skills and experience to help our clients get the best possible outcomes for their legal matters. With his addition to our firm, we are better positioned to serve small businesses, music and entertainment industry clients, creatives, and nonprofits most effectively and efficiently. We are thrilled to have Austin on board and can't wait for our clients to work with him.
