Tom Werge and Greg Corbin Named to 2023 Colorado Super Lawyers and Rising Stars Lists by Thomas Werge

Werge Law Group is proud to announce that partners Tom Werge has been named a 2023 Colorado Super Lawyer and Greg Corbin has been named a 2023 Colorado Super Lawyers: Rising Star. While this marks Tom's first time being selected as a Super Lawyer, he was named a Rising Star each year from 2015-2020. Greg has been selected for the third consecutive year as a 'Rising Star'. This is an incredible feat, and both Tom and Greg are more than deserving of the recognition.

Being nominated as a Super Lawyer is a big deal for any lawyer in the United States. Super Lawyers is an annual list of outstanding attorneys from more than 70 practice areas who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. Each year, only the top five percent of the attorneys in each state are selected to be named a Super Lawyer, and only 2.5 percent of attorneys are chosen as Rising Stars.

Tom has been recognized by his peers as a respected attorney in the legal field. He is known as a skilled litigator with extensive experience in small business, music, and entertainment law, among many other areas. His knowledge and commitment to client service has earned him many accolades: he has been recognized by the American Bar Association and honored as a Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch and Martindale-Hubbell AV Preeminent Attorney. Tom has worked hard throughout his career to build relationships with clients, judges, and colleagues, while maintaining the highest ethical standards in all aspects of his practice. He takes great pride in representing his clients and works tirelessly to ensure that their interests are always served.

Greg Corbin is an experienced transactional attorney who has also represented clients in complex business litigation matters. With his extensive knowledge and experience in the legal field, he is committed to crafting creative solutions for the needs of his small and mid-sized business clients. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Greg volunteers his time on the Board of Directors for Project Worthmore, a non-profit providing services to the Denver refugee community. He also serves on the Solo-Small Firm Executive Council, helping to ensure solo and small firm attorneys across the state are supported in their practices. His impressive track record of successful cases and his dedication to helping businesses succeed, Greg has been recognized as one of Colorado Super Lawyers: Rising Stars for 2021-2023. This marks his third consecutive year being selected as a Rising Star.

We are proud of Tom and Greg's achievements and look forward to their continued success. Congratulations to both of them!!

Former Law Clerk, Austin Baxter, joins Werge Law Group as an Associate Attorney by Thomas Werge

Werge Law Group is pleased to announce the hiring of Austin Baxter as their newest Associate Attorney. Austin brings a wealth of legal knowledge and experience along with him. Austin Baxter has a unique insight and understanding of the legal process and will be a great asset to the team at Werge Law Group. We look forward to the fresh perspectives that Austin will bring to the firm as he continues to serve our clients.

Austin first started work with Werge Law Group as a law clerk for the summer and fall of 2022. After graduating from CU Law School in only 2.5 years—a semester early—he will be working to support both our litigation and transactional practices. Austin began his legal journey at an early age when he began in Mock Trial and Moot Court competitions at 14 years old. At that time, Austin argued in the California Supreme Courthouse, where he later judged oral arguments as the elected Youth Chief Justice of the California Supreme Court by a group of over 4,500 high school students across California. Since then, he has been involved in a variety of legal experiences, such as Criminal Defense for the CU Law clinic, municipal law in both private firms and public entities, as well as various pro bono projects. Austin sat for the Bar in February 2023, and is pending admission to the Colorado Bar. Prior to attending law school, he earned a bachelor's degree from Carleton College, majoring in Philosophy with a minor in Cognitive Science.

Outside of law, Austin enjoys hiking with his pup Gigi and playing ultimate frisbee with local club teams. He is also a volunteer ultimate frisbee coach at Boulder High School and was a former volunteer mock trial coach with the University of Colorado – Boulder's undergraduate team. With his passion for the law and community service, Austin will bring immense value to the firm and Colorado’s legal community.

Austin will be taking on a variety of roles as Associate Attorney. He will be working with the firm’s other attorneys and team members to provide clients with the highest quality legal services in the areas of small business, civil litigation, nonprofits, and music law. He will also be providing guidance and advice to clients on all aspects of the legal process, including drafting documents, researching cases, and representing clients in court. Although he is a new graduate, Austin's passion and knowledge of the law will be an invaluable asset to our firm and our clients. We are confident that Austin will be able to use his skills and experience to help our clients get the best possible outcomes for their legal matters. With his addition to our firm, we are better positioned to serve small businesses, music and entertainment industry clients, creatives, and nonprofits most effectively and efficiently. We are thrilled to have Austin on board and can't wait for our clients to work with him.

Werge Law Group 2022 Holiday Party by Thomas Werge

Our annual holiday party last week was one for the books! Our team, colleagues, and friends enjoyed a mouth-watering spread of food catered by our client, SAME Café, and an array of beverages, including a Mulled Wine creation crafted by associate Kelsey Martin. To make the night even more festive, our team also created an upbeat “Werge Law Group Holiday Party” Spotify playlist to liven up the atmosphere. It was a wonderful time celebrating our successes and it was great to catch up with everyone in such an enjoyable setting.

The Holiday Party was an excellent finish to a truly wonderful day with the team: we kicked off the morning shopping at 16th Street Mall for a family of four we sponsored this year through SafeHouse Denver. It was an incredible experience to give back to those in need this holiday season and we were all touched by the cause. SafeHouse is doing amazing work providing care, community, shelter, and counseling to adults and children facing domestic violence.

We are so grateful for another amazing year at Werge Law Group! We can't wait to see what 2023 has in store for us at Werge & Corbin LLC!!

METAvivor and Metastatic Breast Cancer by Thomas Werge

October is a month when football players change their sock color to pink and the nation turns their attention to the importance of Breast Cancer awareness. However, we want to bring special awareness to stage IV breast cancer, Metastatic Breast Cancer (MBC).

Metastatic breast cancer is commonly misunderstood. It simply means the cancer has traveled to other areas, not just the breast. (And the same goes for any other type of cancer, lung , pancreatic, etc.) The cancer cells have traveled to other parts of the body and they are no longer curable. Metastatic is also referred to as stage 4 or “Advanced Cancer.” MBC is the last stage of breast cancer, and all deaths from breast cancer are caused by MBC.

The patients spend their lives fighting the disease. Tom Werge’s wife, Halie, has been battling MBC for almost 3 years now. In Halie’s case, the cancer left the breast via the lymph nodes and traveled to the bones, lung, liver, and brain.  She has had a double mastectomy, radiation to the breast area and brain, and numerous rounds of chemo.

Halie has lost 50% of her vision due to the side effects of raidation as well as most function of her right arm and hand. As you can imagine, this has made regular life difficult, and she has been unable to even drive herself. She has started hyperbaric chamber treatments to help with radiation injuries. We are optimistic she will see amazing results and positive changes from this treatment.

In addition, much more funding is needed to research MBC. Most funds raised for breast cancer go to “awareness.” In terms of stage 4, we need research and many patients need funding and grants. In the US, we have to wait a minimum of 5 months to apply for disability. And then around 2 years to qualify for Medicare and Medicaid. Most patients live an average of 3-5 years. Organizations like METAvivor are trying to change this.

METAvivor is a non-profit organization that is solely dedicated to the specific fight of MBC through research, awareness, and support. Please take a moment to check out their websitebrochure, and donate to this incredible foundation in support of MBC research.
